Artist statement:
Hiya! The name is Niké but I also go by Crystal :) I’m 19 years old and currently studying art in Maastricht, Netherlands.
Drawing has always been my way of making sense of the world.
Ever since I was a kid, I've been creating. It's also always been something I've enjoyed and been good at. Turning blank pages into colorful artworks and fantasy stories, I love creating whimsical characters and telling stories through them. It's a way for me to express myself and hopefully inspire others as well.I'm usually work digitally but I'm drawn to analog materials like pencils, paint, and pastel crayons.
The difference in materials can create interesting things.
But my creativity doesn't stop at 2D art. Crafting, cosplay, and fashion design let me turn my ideas into something you can see, touch, and wear. It allows me to bring my fantasy into the real world.My main sources of inspiration are what I come across. With my passion for reading and writing, I really enjoy graphic novels, children's books, manga, and more.
Music is also a huge inspiration, it allows me to feel and get ideas I might not have found otherwise.
I also find it important to bring attention to topics that carry stigma, using art as a way to start conversations about them and maybe open some eyes.
Fan art has also played a big role in my growth as an artist. It has a very special place in my heart. It's my way of connecting with stories and characters I love, and it inspires me to keep creating.Because what would the world be without a little bit of fantasy :)
